4K Where It Counts

The front camera is where you need the highest resolution. Why? Because you’re following other vehicles, reading road signs, and trying to identify number plates on cars ahead of you — particularly at speed on highways.

The Elite 9’s 4K UHD front camera with an 8MP Sony STARVIS 2 IMX678 sensor handles all of this well. Sharpness holds up at highway speeds. Low-light performance is excellent — the sensor operates down to under 0.03 lux, which means it captures usable footage in conditions where cheaper cameras produce blurry noise.

The 12-bit image capture on the front camera adds another layer of quality. Standard dash cams capture 8-bit footage. The Elite 9 captures 12-bit, meaning more colour information per frame, smoother transitions between light and dark areas, and more accurate representation of what was actually in front of the car.

Strong 2K Rear Coverage

The rear camera records in 2K QHD using a 5MP Sony STARVIS 2 IMX675 sensor. This is meaningfully sharper than the 1080p rear cameras of older BlackVue models. At 2K, you can reliably identify the number plate of a vehicle that rear-ends you, even at an angle. Both cameras benefit from dual HDR, which helps balance footage in challenging lighting from both directions.

For drivers who regularly deal with Melbourne’s glare-heavy summer afternoons or early morning commutes with harsh sunrise lighting behind them, dual HDR from both cameras is a practical advantage.

Supercapacitor - A Must Have For The Australian Summer

Every model in the BlackVue ELITE range uses a supercapacitor instead of a lithium-ion battery. For Australian conditions, this matters more than many people realise.

Interior car temperatures in summer regularly exceed 70°C in Melbourne and well above that in Queensland, WA, and NT. Lithium-ion batteries degrade rapidly in these conditions, eventually causing recording failures, unexpected shutdowns, or permanent damage. The camera sits in standby, waiting for an impact. When one is detected, it wakes in under one second and records the 10 seconds before the event plus the footage after.

This makes parking mode genuinely practical for Melbourne drivers who park overnight on the street, leave their vehicle at the airport, or simply want peace of mind while the car sits in a shopping centre car park for a few hours.
